About
The artistic research of Andrea Dojmi focuses on the relationship between the individual identity and the community, the formal education and its architectural spatial organization. Through the employment of different media, ranging from sculpture, installation, to films, painting, photo, writing and publishing art-projects, the artist esamines the tensions between the environment and the psychological suggestion that the work arouses: fear, joy, await and a feeling of death. These elements are the ones which usually translate into attraction to a world which is based on realistic and common aspects while at the same time overwhelmed by the frightfully unknown.
Dojmi often takes architectural design to its logical extreme and then contorted it further to shape a moment of clarity. Elements of urban architecture, military setups and sport equipment entwined in the realization of hibrid structures with the goal of forming familiar shapes which guide the observer to the corners of his/her own experience, imagination.
In the film-works the themes interweave, pervaded by a constant serenity that at moments can reveal tragedy. The quality of these works can remind some international educational documentaries and TV video-archives that inspired a whole adolescence-generation in the 70ʼs. Youngs, places and situations, are shown with the same innocent eyes of an individual but universal past, where truth seems to be caught in the deepest part of a simple message, like the quality of our vision in the first technological age and its move into our present.
Andrea Dojmi has exhibited internationally in contemporary art solo shows as well as group and his films have been invited by international film festival around the world like the Montreal Nouveau Film Festival, Torino Film Festival, NY International Indipendent Film Festival, Athens Videoart Festival, Lausanne Film Festival.
